New ‘Eco’ House in Horsted Keynes

26 Aug 2009

David Jenkins Design secured Planning Permission for their design in March 2008 but due to the ‘credit crunch’ plans were put on hold. The project went out to competitive tender and work started on site in August 2009 after the contract had been agreed with Sussex builders, Stevens Brothers Builders Ltd.

The new house will incorporate underfloor heating and use solar energy. It will be highly insulated, use timber double glazed windows and has masonry walls for thermal mass. It will feature contemporary elements including a double sided wood-burning stove and sliding folding timber panel doors. A traditional plain tiled pitched roof and bricks supplied from local Sussex brickworks will ensure the building fits comfortably into the Conservation Area. We look forward to completion in late Spring 2010. Look out for updates.
